Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2018: Winner's prizes announced by organisers

As the deadline closing date of 30th September fast approaches for entries from speciality food & drink retailers from across the UK and Northern Ireland, the organisers have announced some of the prizes the overall Farm Shop & Deli Awards '2018 Retailer of the Year' can win.

Through the extensive marketing and social media campaigns run during the entry stage, entrants to the 2018 Awards can benefit from exposure to over 14,000 viewers to the Awards website, Twitter and Facebook pages - which increases through the finalist and then the winners stages.

In addition to the above extensive coverage, Farm Shop & Deli Awards are pleased to announce their Retailer of the Year winner will also receive a two page 'Spotlight' feature in The Grocer publication.

Seafood Week As media partner to the awards, The Grocer is a multi award winning, premier weekly magazine for the biggest industry in the UK - the food and drink retail sector. Sign up now to get the most out of Seafood Week 2017

Fishmongers are being urged to sign up to Seafood Week - and offered marketing materials and promotional ideas to help them make the campaign a success for their businesses.

Seafood Week will be back in October with eight days of promotion and marketing activities of fish and shellfish, and organisers Seafish are looking for fishmongers to sign up for the campaign now.

The campaign enters its third year with a series of media activities, online promotion, and business events, taking place across the UK.

And fishmongers looking to get the most out of the event are being urged to sign up as partners now.

Seafish Marketing Manager Heather Middleton said: "Seafood Week is about getting more people to enjoy seafood, which can only be a good thing for industry and seafood businesses. By teaming up with Seafish for the campaign, we can help businesses across the UK to promote themselves and maximise the benefits of Seafood Week.
"We are looking for people to sign up for the campaign now and let us know how they are planning to celebrate Seafood Week. It's easy to do and there is no cost attached."

Fish and Shellfish, Meat and Poultry, Fresh Produce, Brewery, Food Industry Skills, Education and Training

Food and Drink Assessor essential criteria:
*Applicants must be qualified Assessors with a recognised Assessor award: D32/D33, A1, TAQA or working towards their qualification will be considered.
*Experience of delivering full Apprenticeships in Food and Drink, Functional Skills.
*Must hold appropriate occupational competency in any of the above areas of at least 2/3 years in the Industry.
*The ability to hit the ground running.
*Organisational skills are a must.

Food and Drink Assessor duties:
*Assess and support learners through full Apprenticeship frameworks in Proficiency Skills.
*Targeted to actively recruit learners to grow your own caseload and maintain size of caseload through marketing and sales activities
*Manage/maintain a caseload of approx. 40 learners, the successful candidate will plan and coordinate their own diary to ensure learners are being visited in a timely fashion
*Visit/observe learners in their place of work to gather evidence towards their Apprenticeship/QCF qualifications.
*Manage your diary efficiently to ensure timely visits and reviews are conducted.
*Organise and maintain documentation on learners' progress.
*Support, advise and motivate learners.
*Overcome barriers to learning and adapt delivery to meet learner's needs.
*Meet Assessor KPI's in terms of timely visits, quality paperwork and general administration.

Billingsgate Seafood School needs your help

The Seafood School at Billingsgate is taking part in an EU wide project looking at the training which is currently available to fishmongers in different countries.

The e-fishNet project is part of Erasmus+ the EU programme for education and training. We would like to know what training you have received or are currently undergoing and what you think about it. We would also like to know what training fishmongers would like to see available and how you would want it to be delivered.

The aim is to identify gaps in the training and to develop a programme that would be available to everyone. If you can spare 10 minutes of your time to complete a questionnaire and give your views, we would be very grateful.

Seafish to kick off new health campaign – Fish 2 a week


Seafish is launching a new health campaign which aims to encourage the public to eat two portions of fish a week.

Fish 2 a week will focus on the health benefits of seafood by explaining that by eating just two portions of seafood each week, people can lead healthier lives, and has been developed following the success of Seafish's award-winning Superfishoil campaign which concentrated on omega-3.

The new campaign is an opportunity for businesses to promote the benefits of eating seafood and as a way of encouraging the general public to eat more fish and shellfish. An industry toolkit of marketing materials, social media ideas, and official logos is available to download on the new website You can also get involved in the campaign, which launches on February 13, on social media by following the hashtag #my2aweek.

NHS and health professionals recommend we eat two portions of fish each week, one of which should be oily fish. Fish 2 a week will be getting this message out to people and encouraging them to eat more fish more often.
